FB | Oregon Offense Bests Defense in Fast-Paced Spring Game

After a four-month hiatus, Oregon Football hosted their annual Spring Game at Autzen Stadium, with the offense – Team Thunder – beating Team Lightning and the defense 59-34. Though the game was played under different scoring rules than a typical football game, spectators were still treated to an offensive show, in large part thanks to  two redshirt freshmen, running backs C.J. Verdell and WR Daewood Davis. While offensive personnel rotated every possession, Verdell led all running backs with eight carries, totaling 44 yards and two touchdowns. Davis caught 3 passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns. Both freshmen accumulated their totals in the first half. Oregon’s defense showed signs of improvement as well. After missing the latter half of the 2017 season, Kaulana Apelu made his presence felt, leading the defense with nine tackles and returning an interception for a 103-yard touchdown. With the offense’s victory, the Ducks are done practicing until they reconvene in the fall. Oregon’s 2018 season officially kicks off at Autzen Stadium against Bowling Green on September 1.
