Oregon Track and Field Sweeps Pepsi Invitational in Home Opener

The Oregon Ducks Track and Field team opened up at Hayward Field on Saturday for the Pepsi Team Invitational against the Washington Huskies, Washington State Cougars, and BYU Cougars. Oregon walked away with titles on both sides and had impressive performances all across the board. The Women’s team won the meet in dominant fashion and came out strong from the beginning. Kiana Phelps won the first event of the day in the Women’s Discus, while Madddie Rabing won the women’s hammer. Those two later went 2-3 in the women’s shot put as well. To start the running events, Oregon’s 4×100 relay teams went 1-2 in which was just the start of the dominant day of sprints for Oregon. The Women would go on to go 1-2 in the 100 meter, 1-2 in the long jump, and a dominating 1-5 finish in the 200 meter. The women of Oregon ultimately won the meet by 33 points. For the Men side, Oregon started a little slow but stayed in the meet with several solid performances until they ultimately started to dominate and take the narrow victory. Tristan James swept both the jumps for the Ducks, while Orwin Emilen won the 400 meter, Riker Daniel won the 200 meter, Braxton Canady won the 110 meter hurdles, and Sebstain Barajas won the shot put. Ultimately, several performances across the board rather then domination in one area led to Oregon winning the meet by 11 points. The Oregon Track and Field team will split its sqaud for the Mt. Sac Relays and the Bryan Clay Invitational.
