Oregon Baseball Sweeps the Doubleheader Against Washington State Behind Dominant Pitching

Behind superb pitching from starters, Matt Mercer and Kenyon Yovan, the Oregon Ducks were able to win both games of the doubleheader against the Washington State Cougars, and secure their second series victory of the Pac 12 season. In the first game, Oregon failed to record a hit past the 3rd inning but was able to hang on to win 2-1. In the second game, Daniel Patzlaff cranked his first homer of the season and gave Oregon critical insurance runs en route to a 4-2 win. Mercer, in game one, totaled 6 IP, giving up only 1 run on 2 hits, while in game 2, Yovan remained undefeated in starts this season, throwing 7 IP,  surrendering only 1 run, and striking out 8. Ryne Nelson closed out both games for the Ducks and earned his 3rd and 4th saves of the season. Despite the pitching dominance, the offense failed to score runs after the 3rd inning in both contests. The Ducks will play the Cougars once more over the weekend, although it is yet to be announced whether that will take place on Saturday or Sunday.
