Men’s and Women’s Basketball Host Preseason Exhibitions

An impromptu decision by the Oregon Athletic Department resulted in Oregon’s Men and Women Basketball teams hosting exhibition games. All proceeds will go to support those impacted by the wildfires throughout Oregon. The women played Portland State and the men played Idaho.

Women’s Basketball

While no official score was kept during the game, the unofficial final saw the Ducks beating Vikings 88-50. Oregon started off slowly, finishing the last four minutes of the first quarter without a field goal. Portland State ended the quarter on an 11-2 run and was only losing 19-17 at the buzzer. Oregon took control of the game in the second quarter, outscoring PSU 27-14. The second half was similar, with Oregon outscoring PSU 46-29. Every Duck saw action and recorded at least a point with the exception of Freshman Lydia Giomi, who still contributed with three rebounds. Portland State’s Kiana Brown led the team in scoring and rebounding, totaling 20 points and six rebounds. The Ducks were led by Sabrina Ionescu, who scored 23 points and tallied six assists, six rebounds, and four steals. Ruthy Hebard recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. The Women’s Basketball team will host Westmont College in an exhibition game on Nov. 5.

Men’s Basketball

Approximately 20 minutes after the women’s game ended, the Oregon Men’s team took the court and downed Idaho 81-57. Both teams sturggled on defense in the first quarter. The Ducks went 8-17, including 5-10 from three while the Vandals went 7-13 and 3-6 from three. The second quarter told a different story, however, as the Ducks shot just 28.6% to the Vandals 23.1%. With the Ducks holding a slim 32-29 lead coming out of halftime, Freshman Guard Troy Brown exploded, hitting his first three shots before the Vandals could muster a point. Oregon capitalized on the fast start to the half, outscoring Idaho 49-28. The Ducks were led by Victor Bailey Jr. with 20 points and Elijah Brown with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Victor Sanders led the Vandals with 15 points, followed by Nate Sherwood, who put up 13 points and 5 rebounds. The Men’s Basketball team will host Northwest Christian University on Oct. 30.
