Ducks Lose Game 2 of the Series to UCLA after a Wild Finish in Extra Innings

The Ducks came into game two of the series against UCLA with renewed energy and vigor; however, that was quickly erased after UCLA starter Selina Ta’amilo and the UCLA defense held the Oregon offense at bay. Both teams were scoreless heading into extra innings, but it was the Oregon defense that failed in the bottom of the ninth, making way for UCLA to win 1-0. With runners on second and third base, the Ducks had to figure a way to stop the Bruins from scoring the winning run. Freshman Maggie Balint, having given up only two hits at this point in the game, threw a pitch in the dirt that got away from catcher Gwen Svekis, allowing UCLA’s Zoe Shaw to cross home plate, giving UCLA the win. Oregon will look to bounce back on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
