How long have you been a DJ? Almost a year

What made you want to be a DJ?

When I was growing up my parents only let me listen to Kraftwerk. When I ran away from the commune at 12 years old I was promptly accepted into a logging community made up of former Viking motorcyclists who introduced me to the wide world of rock & roll. Since then music has been my passion and I wanted to share it with the world.

Tell us your favorite memory as a DJ:

My favorite memories as a DJ are going into the station at 2am every week to do my first show and thinking that no one was going to listen. But every day (morning) I would get a call from James, our station’s #1 fan, thanking me for broadcasting so late and talking to me about music, love, and everything under the sun.

What makes your show unique?

I always turn up the music all the way until it’s pretty much just constant clipping. The programming directors have asked me to stop doing this, but I’m not in it for them! I’m in it for the music!

If you could play only one album on the radio for the rest of your DJ career, what would it be and why?

I would play Fashion Week by Deathgrips on repeat. Not much justification needed there.

How did you come up with your DJ name?

I used to frequent a 24 hour Donut shop in Oakland called Colonial Donuts. It’s the best spot to get a donut or play chess against 60 year old men at three in the morning. Initially my show was at 2am so it was a fitting name, but I kept it after moving to the morning slot because it became a franchise. Not the actual donut shop, although that is a franchise, but my show.

Dream guest to have on your show?

My dream guest would be Jonwayne. I would just hand over the reins and watch him do his beat magic in awe. Other than that, I want my family to come on my show with me and share their unique music tastes, but that’s less likely than Jonwayne.

Anything else you’d like the world to know about you as a DJ?

KWVA is a cult and I am trapped. Send help by tuning in Sundays at 10am, it is the only time they let me contact the outside world.

Thanks, Colonial Donuts! If you’re interested in being the next featured DJ of the week, contact music@kwvaradio.org.
